Big Brothers Big Sisters has an exciting new program mentoring children of prisoners. We have received a grant through the Department of Health and Human Services and partnered with other Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the state to serve children who have a parent in a state or federal prison. This program is being called Amachi. We are looking to serve children ages 6-14 who have one or both parents in prison. For more information, please contact our agency. The volunteers for this program are primarily from the faith based community.
Action Gymnastics and Cheer Centre continues to sponsor children who are in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Mary Bricks, owner of Action Gymnastics, has offered her services to teach gymnastics to children who are in our program and would otherwise be unable to participate in gymnastics classes. She is sponsoring up to ten children for recreational classes. Children in our program must register through their case manager at Big Brothers Big Sisters to be eligible. Contact the agency at 931-647-1418 for more information. Action Gymnastics is located at 221B West Dunbar Cave Road in Clarksville. The phone number is 931-920-3111.
If your community organization or business would like BBBSC to come to you and conduct a free presentation, call 931-647-1418. We want you to know what our agency does and how we impact the children in this community.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2005 was a huge success and fun for everyone involved. The two-day event was held on April 9 and 10 at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center. A huge thanks is extended to the staff and management at the Pinnacle for hosting the two-day event. This year we raised $53,000 for Bowl for Kids’ Sake.
The first Cumberland River Rubber Duck Race was held on July 2, 2005. For our first time at ever hosting a duck race on a body of water, the event went really well. Congratulations to all our winners. The event raised over $5,000 for our agency. We hope to continue having the event in years to come and raise more money in subsequent years!
Volunteers needed! With the deployment of Fort Campbell, we said farewell to many of our dedicated volunteers. Many of the “Littles” in our programs had to say farewell to their “Big” as well. We wish our soldiers a safe journey, as this is the second and third deployment since 9-11 for many of these dedicated men and women. We now have a void at our agency and need volunteers who are willing to be “Bigs” to our “Littles”. We also know that when fathers and mothers are deployed, the need for mentoring services increase, and some children find that then need an extra role model in their lives to help them adjust to this difficult time. We also know that there are many displaced children in our city as a result of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. These children will also be in need of the services our agency offers. We never have an overflow of volunteers at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Please volunteer your time to make a difference in the life of a child.
